AdContext Privacy Policy

Purpose and website access

AdContext helps you collect, organize, and export research records from chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. It reads loaded page content to identify labeled ads, product recommendations, and recognizable brand mentions, and to capture nearby questions and answers.

Manual capture lets you select text or a page element on a supported ChatGPT page.

Information processed and stored

Saved records may include titles, content, brands, categories, visible destination links, nearby conversation text, context keywords, research tags, answer grouping, and timestamps.

Automatic saves include the source conversation URL. Query strings and fragments are removed from saved source conversation URLs. Manual capture provides an option to include the conversation link.

Settings include your collection preferences, saving mode, interface language, and additional brand list.

Conversation text and screenshots may contain personal or sensitive information already present in the conversation, including information about identity, health, or finances. The extension does not automatically redact this information. Review saved records and exported files before sharing them.

Automatic saving and your controls

Collection and automatic saving are enabled by default. Detected items and nearby conversation text are saved locally without a confirmation prompt.

You can pause collection or select “Review before saving” in the extension toolbar or getting-started page. In review mode, each draft requires confirmation before it is saved.

You can edit saved titles, brands, categories, and conversation context; clear saved context; and delete individual records.

Optional screenshots

Screenshots require your explicit selection and a browser toolbar action. A temporary image of the visible tab is captured locally and cropped to the selected area. Only the cropped image is stored with the record after confirmation.

Automatic collection does not take screenshots.

Local storage, retention, and deletion

Preferences are stored using chrome.storage.local. Saved records and screenshots are stored in the extension’s IndexedDB within your browser profile.

Records remain locally until you delete them or clear the extension’s storage. Uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage removes local records. There is no cross-device synchronization, and import or restore is not currently supported.

You can export filtered records as CSV or JSON. JSON includes saved screenshots. Exported files remain under your control and are not deleted when you delete a record or uninstall the extension.

Data transmission and sharing

AdContext does not upload saved records, screenshots, conversation text, or preferences to ChatAdsWatch, the developer, or other servers.

The extension does not use analytics trackers or external AI services. We do not receive, sell, or share this locally stored data, use it for advertising, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions.

If you choose to share an exported file, its contents are disclosed to the recipients you select. If you open a source or destination link, the external website’s own privacy practices apply.

If you contact support, the email service you use processes your message under its own policies. Avoid including private conversations or sensitive information in support messages.

Permissions

• storage: Saves extension preferences locally.

• activeTab: Enables an optional screenshot after an explicit user action on a supported active tab.

• Access to chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com: Enables content detection, conversation context capture, and manual selection.

The extension does not request access to every website, browser cookies, or the browser history database. It does not call private ChatGPT APIs.

Saved records can include source conversation URLs. Saving these URLs is distinct from reading the browser’s history database.

Limited use

AdContext’s use of information obtained through browser APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Data is used only to provide and support the local collection, organization, and export features described in this policy.
